MELBOURNE 2026 · FAMILY POLICY COLLECTION
Family Safeguarding
& Participation Policy
A short, practical policy for the International Ballet Masterclass. It applies to dancers, families, faculty, staff, contractors, volunteers and visitors while they take part in our in-person or programme-managed online activities.
1. Our commitment to every dancer
Every child and young person has the right to feel safe, respected, heard and included. We have zero tolerance for child abuse, grooming, bullying, harassment, discrimination or unsafe conduct. Safety and wellbeing come before performance outcomes, timetable convenience and promotional activity.
We aim to provide an inclusive environment that respects each dancer’s cultural background, language, faith, gender, disability, family circumstances and individual needs. Dancers are encouraged to ask questions, say when something does not feel right and seek help from a trusted adult.
2. Safer people, professional boundaries
Anyone engaged in child-related work for the programme must meet applicable Victorian child-safety, screening and Working with Children Check requirements before performing that work. They must act professionally, treat dancers with care and respect, and follow the event’s child-safety instructions.
We use practical safeguards in the studio and online: appropriate supervision, clear professional boundaries, approved programme channels for family communication, and controlled access to family information. Personnel must not engage in unapproved private communication, favouritism, inappropriate physical contact, discriminatory behaviour or recording outside authorised programme processes.
3. Speak up: concerns, complaints and immediate danger
Tell a programme leader as soon as possible if you see, hear about or experience a safety concern. Families may also write to hello@internationalballetmasterclass.com. Concerns are handled promptly, respectfully and with the child’s safety at the centre. We will take reasonable steps to protect privacy, while sharing information when needed to keep a child safe or meet a legal obligation.
If a child is in immediate danger, call 000. You do not need proof before raising a concern. We will not ask a child to investigate or repeatedly retell an experience.
4. Health, injury and emergency response
Families must provide information that may be needed for safe participation and update it if anything changes. Dancers must tell a teacher or event leader if they feel unwell, are injured or cannot safely continue. Staff may pause, adjust or stop participation where this is reasonably necessary.
When urgent support is needed, we may provide or arrange first aid, contact the listed emergency person, call an ambulance or seek urgent medical treatment. We will make reasonable efforts to contact the parent or guardian as soon as practicable. External medical and ambulance costs remain the family’s responsibility where permitted by law.
5. Arrival, collection and independent departure
The Family Portal must show an authorised collection plan before participation. We will release a dancer only to a named authorised adult, unless a parent or guardian has expressly recorded permission for independent departure. Tell us promptly if your collection plan changes.
Supervision is provided only during the published programme hours. Please arrive and collect your dancer promptly. We do not provide after-hours care, and a dancer may not leave early unless the programme team has the required parent/guardian authority.
6. Photography, film and social sharing
Media consent is optional and never affects placement. Families choose separately: public programme media, the password-protected family gallery and the Goldina Creative digital-experience portfolio. If all are declined, the dancer is recorded as NO MEDIA for the event team.
Only authorised programme personnel may create official photography or film. Families and visitors must not photograph, film, record or publish identifiable material of another child without express permission. A family may ask us to withdraw optional media permission for reasonable future use by replying to an official programme email.
7. Family and dancer conduct
We expect kindness, respect, punctuality and cooperation with reasonable staff and venue directions. Dancers should respect each other’s space, training and privacy. Adults must not undermine safety directions, pressure a dancer to train through pain, or behave in a way that is intimidating, abusive, discriminatory or disruptive.
We may take proportionate action where conduct creates a safety concern, including changing participation arrangements or removing a person from the venue. This does not affect any right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
